Navarro ISD Celebrates New Athletic Facilities with Permit Pep Rally

GERONIMO, TX May 16, 2025 – Navarro ISD ignited school spirit today with a vibrant Permit Pep Rally to mark the commencement of site preparation for its highly anticipated New Athletic Stadium project. This significant undertaking, approved by voters in the 2024 Bond election (Proposition B), will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the future Navarro High School campus, a project previously approved in the 2021 Bond. The event underscored the district's commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for its students, programs, and the entire Navarro community.
The pep rally kicked off with an energetic "Tunnel Run," featuring the Navarro Panther mascot, cheer and dance teams, and the drumline lining the entrance. Student and youth athletes, coaches, high school administrators, and the construction crews then charged through the tunnel as the drumline played an electrifying cadence and the cheer and dance teams transitioned into spirited renditions of the school fight song.
Superintendent Dr. Mandy Epley warmly welcomed attendees, expressing her enthusiasm for this pivotal step forward. "What an incredible day for Navarro ISD!" she exclaimed. "Today isn't just about turning dirt; it's about planting seeds – seeds of opportunity, growth, and achievement for every single one of our student-athletes, coaches, and members of our community."
Athletic Director Glenn Hill shared his vision for the future of Navarro Athletics, highlighting the transformative impact these new facilities will have on all sports programs and fine arts. "These new facilities will provide our athletes with the resources they need to compete at their highest level," said Coach Hill. "We’re also excited to see the incredible talent and dedication within our fine arts programs and all students who wear the Panther uniform! They are an integral part of the Panther spirit for Friday night lights and beyond."
Board Vice President Clint Scheib echoed the community's strong support and investment in the project. "This groundbreaking is a testament to the unwavering support of our community and the commitment of our administration and staff to providing the very best for our students," stated Trustee Scheib. "We believe that athletics and fine arts play a vital role in connecting students through extracurricular activities that develop the portrait of a Navarro graduate and well-rounded individuals."
A traditional highlight of the event was the official groundbreaking ceremony, with Superintendent Dr. Epley, Athletic Director Hill, and members of the School Board and administration participating in the symbolic turning of the soil.
Adding a unique and celebratory touch, student-athletes participated in "First Play" celebrations, offering a glimpse into the exciting future of Panther athletics and fine arts on the new fields and performance spaces. From baseball swings to football kicks and drumline beats, students shared their skills, passion, and optimism for their future home for sports and fine arts.
The event also included a special moment to honor the dedicated construction crews who will bring the vision to life. Student-athletes asked for the honor of the construction crews to sign pieces of equipment representing athletics, band, cheer and dance as a symbol of partnership and gratitude. "These folks are the unsung heroes who will pour the concrete, lay the turf, and build the very foundations of our future," noted Superintendent Epley. "These pieces will be proudly displayed in our trophy cases as a symbol of this groundbreaking day – our first victory together. Thank you for being an integral part of the Panther family from day one!"
The pep rally concluded with closing remarks and a thank you from Dr. Epley, followed by the school's alma mater led by the cheer team. Attendees enjoyed refreshments as they departed, filled with anticipation for the progress of the New Athletic Stadium. Initial work has started on spring program facilities such as baseball and softball fields, with anticipated use for a portion of next year’s athletic sporting events.
