Connecting Passion with Purpose

Navarro ISD Thrives Through Stakeholder Engagement

Navarro ISD's strength and success is intrinsically linked to the active participation and diverse voices of our stakeholders. The district's Collaborative Vision is driven by parent, staff and community engagement - a cornerstone for achieving our board priorities and goals.

As our district continues to experience high growth, increasing community participation becomes even more critical, allowing us to be proactive in our approach to meet evolving needs.

Numerous avenues exist for parents, staff, district leaders, and all community members to directly impact the district's progress and contribute to a thriving educational environment. We invite you to take a look and consider joining a committee or organization's purpose that connects your passion. Volunteers hold a big piece of the heart of Geronimo!

  • This committee plays a vital role in shaping the future of Navarro ISD's infrastructure. Comprised of community members, parents, staff, students, and district leadership, the committee provides vision and recommendations to the Board of Trustees for the development of facilities, priority projects outlined within the Navarro ISD Long Range Facilities Master Plan, and future Bond outlook in alignment with the plan. This collaborative effort ensures that future facility decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of our district. Click the link below to sign up and see meeting information.

  • School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

SHAC is an essential platform for engagement in our district. The mission of the Navarro ISD SHAC is to encourage and promote fitness and healthy lifestyle choices for students, staff, and the community. As an advisory group representing both the community and the school district, the SHAC provides crucial input on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student well-being and learning. SHACs facilitate input into health education programs and support early intervention and prevention strategies through the collaborative efforts of local families, educators, administrators, and the community. By law, every independent school system in Texas is required to have a SHAC, with the majority of its members being parents not employed by the school district, as detailed in Title 2, Chapter 28, Section 28.004 of the Texas Education Code. The Navarro Student Health Advisory Council aims to review and recommend programs that provide current information on health, physical, and social education issues vital to students and the community, subsequently advising the NISD School Board for approval and implementation.

    District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC)

The DEIC also serves as a critical advisory body for academic programs, school calendar. Composed of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members, the DEIC is dedicated to enhancing educational programs and ensuring that school goals align with community needs. This collaborative approach yields significant benefits: for students, it leads to enhanced educational programs and improved learning outcomes; for teachers, it provides a direct channel for input on policies and professional development; and for the community, it fosters strong school-community partnerships, encouraging vital local support for schools.

  • The Safety and Security Committee offers another vital opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the well-being of the school community. This committee is instrumental in developing and reviewing safety protocols and initiatives, legislative mandates, and partner directly with local law enforcement to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff.

This committee is open to parents, district employees, students, law enforcement officers (active and retired), and community members.

  • Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) serve as vital volunteer-based groups within campuses, dedicated to enriching the educational experience for all students. By fostering strong connections between families and school staff, PTOs are instrumental in bridging communication, organizing community events, and generating crucial financial support for initiatives that extend beyond the district's budget, such as classroom materials, field trips, and school assemblies.

Parents who join their campus PTO gain a unique opportunity to directly impact their child's school environment, gain insights into school happenings, connect with other parents and educators, and model the importance of education and community involvement for their children. Whether by volunteering for events, contributing ideas, or simply attending meetings, participation in the PTO creates a more vibrant and supportive learning community for everyone.
