Navarro ISD Celebrates Student Excellence Across Academics, Fine Arts, and Athletics at May Board Re

GERONIMO, TX — May 20, 2026 — The Navarro Independent School District Board of Trustees held its May meeting to celebrate a landmark season of student achievement. From state-level academic sweeps to historic deep runs in fine arts and athletics, the district recognized the programs and individuals who embodied the "Profile of a Navarro Graduate" during the Spring 2026 semester.
"These results are evident of the countless hours our students spend practicing and refining their skills," said Chelsea Ormond, Director of Communications, during the presentation. "They have represented our district with the highest level of excellence."
Highlights of the recognized programs include:

UIL Academics: The team saw historic success with District Championships in Spelling and Regional runner-up titles in Calculator Applications and Mathematics. Senior John Kehoe set a school record by becoming the first Panther to compete in three separate events at the State level (Number Sense, Mathematics, and Calculator Applications), placing as high as 8th in the state.

UIL One Act Play: For the first time in 16 years, the Navarro High School company advanced to the Regional level—placing them in the top 24 programs in the state. Their production of Theophilus North earned 16 individual awards, placing the troupe within the top 11% of all 4A programs in Texas.

Baseball: The Varsity Baseball team concluded an impressive post-season run as Area Finalists. The program swept the District 28-4A major honors, including Noah Rosas (District MVP), Austin Davidson (Offensive MVP), Tyler Riske (Defensive MVP), Ryan Davidson (Pitcher of the Year), and Drew Mundine (Newcomer of the Year).

Softball: Capping off their season as Bi-District Finalists, the Varsity Softball team was recognized for excellence on the field and in the classroom. Shelbi Stevens was named District Offensive MVP, leading a roster that boasted 13 Academic All-District selections and multiple THSCA Academic All-State honors.

Tennis: The duo of Baylee Burgess and Kyleigh Whitlow captured the District Championship and a 3rd place Regional finish, qualifying for the State tournament. The program also celebrated District Champions Jacob Cooper and Jeremy Hamilton, alongside a strong roster of Academic All-State and All-District athletes.

Track and Field: The program celebrated a 3rd place District finish and seven new school records. Highlighting the season were State qualifiers Lilia Flo (8th in both the 3200m and 1600m) and Emersen Cochran, who secured the State Bronze Medal in the 400m dash with a time of 56.41 seconds.

Golf: Navarro Golf reached the podium at the highest level this year as Jake Kirk claimed the 4A State Silver Medal. Kirk finished as the second-best golfer in Texas after a grueling three-hole playoff, leading a group of six other Regional Qualifiers.

FFA: The Navarro FFA chapter saw a "Blue and Gold banner year" with five teams winning District Championships. Multiple teams advanced to State, including the Livestock Evaluation team (14th in Texas) and the Farm & Agribusiness Management team (12th in Texas), with students Avery and Peyton Sisak, Harley Frost, and Sandy Rogers ranking in the top 5% of the state.
