April School Board Recognitions

At their regular meeting on April 20, 2026, the Board of Trustees recognized the following programs for their outstanding district and post-season achievements, academic accolades, and special showcases of talent. These recognitions align with the District's ongoing commitment to its core priorities, including maximizing academic performance, maximizing extra-curricular opportunities and engagement for all students, and obtaining and maintaining top-rated district recognition through the support of high-quality staff and the engagement of the entire school community.
Women’s Powerlifting
Tonight, we celebrate the incredible strength and discipline of our Women’s Powerlifting program. This season, Navarro ISD sent 14 athletes to the Regional meet—the third-largest contingent in our entire region. Their hard work culminated in three standout athletes qualifying for the State meet, including senior, Paula Hernandez, who completed her career as a three-time State qualifier and PR’d in Squat and Deadlift at the State Meet, and sophomore Ayden Chapa continues to set a high bar, earning her place as a two-time, back-to-back state qualifier.
We are especially proud to recognize Lyla Grace Henke, who achieved the ultimate honor of becoming a State Champion in the unequipped division. Lyla Grace didn't just win; she set new benchmarks for excellence by breaking state records in both the Squat, with a 285 lb lift, and the overall total, with 580 lbs. Her performance earned her the 'Best Squat' award for the lightweight divisions, cementing her place in the history of Navarro athletics.
Congratulations to our student-athletes and Head Coach Gormly and Assistant Coach Doreck.
Men’s Powerlifting
The Men’s Powerlifting program continued its tradition of excellence this year, sending 11 athletes to the Regional competition. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, eight of those young men advanced to the State meet to compete against the very best in Texas including Cael Scott, Isaiah King, Dylan Trotti, Korbin Benes, Trinidad Aguirre, Hagan Krauel, Hudson Stadler, and Mason Harvey.
Our lifters displayed incredible grit on the state stage, with five athletes placing top 10 in state, and several athletes achieving personal records in every single lift. We are proud to highlight Mason Harvey, who finished his senior year with a staggering 1,650 lb total, placing 4th in the State. We also recognize Cael for being selected to the THSPA Academic All-State Elite Team!
From top-ten finishes to personal triumphs, these athletes have represented Navarro with immense pride and physical fortitude. Congratulations to our student-athletes and Head Coach Gormly and Assistant Coach Doreck.
Color Guard
The Navarro Color Guard captivated audiences this season with their moving production, 'Time After Time.' This performance explored the resilience of human connections through intricate movement and dance. The team’s dedication to their craft resulted in a season of exponential growth; after starting the season in 4th place, they worked their way up to a 3rd place finish and finally secured 1st place at the Championships.
A testament to their technical skill, the team also achieved the highest movement and dance score in their entire class. Their journey from the start of the season to becoming Champions serves as a beautiful reminder of what can be achieved through persistence and artistic collaboration.
Congratulations to the team and Director Yaira Nieves.
High School Band
The Navarro High School Band program has reached a milestone of musical excellence this year. We are thrilled to announce that the Varsity Wind Ensemble earned superior ratings in both Concert and Sight-Reading. When combined with their superior ratings from the fall marching season, the program has been awarded the coveted UIL Sweepstakes Award for 2025-2026.
Additionally, our JV Symphonic Band showed great promise and skill, earning a 1st Division rating in the UIL Concert evaluation. These accolades reflect the hours of practice and the high standards of musicianship maintained by our students and directors, ensuring that the Navarro music program remains a beacon of excellence in our community.
Congratulations to our student-performers and Directors Jason Adam, Izrael Robledo, & Brad Arnold
Junior High Band
Our musical success begins with our younger performers, and the Junior High Band program has proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Both the Honor Band and the 8th Grade Symphonic Band earned superior ratings from every single judge in both the Concert and Sight-Reading categories.
By achieving these perfect marks, both bands have been awarded Sweepstakes trophies. This level of consistency across all judges is a rare and difficult feat, signaling a very bright future for the Navarro band program as these talented musicians prepare to transition to the high school level.
Congratulations to our student-performers and Directors Hector Ramirez, Jason Adam, Izrael Robledo, & Brad Arnold
