Navarro Independent School District Announces John Christopher Kehoe as Class of 2026 Valedictorian

GERONIMO, TX — May 6, 2026 — Navarro High School is proud to announce John Christopher Kehoe as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2026. A distinguished scholar, mentor, and competitor, Kehoe embodies the excellence and integrity defined by the Profile of a Navarro Graduate.
The son of Michael and Carmen Kehoe, John has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to academic rigor since arriving at Navarro in the 9th grade. Originally from San Diego, California, John has spent his high school career setting a high bar for what it means to be a "Panther," combining technical brilliance with a heart for service and leadership.
John’s academic record is evident of the academic discipline the district prides itself on cultivating. With an SAT score of 1410 (including a 780 in Math) and a perfect 36 on the Math portion of the ACT, John has consistently sought out the most challenging curricula. His performance on the AP Calculus BC exam—earning a 5 on the BC portion and a 5 AB subscore—highlights a student who does not just meet standards but exceeds them.
His competitive spirit flourished in UIL Academics, where he amassed over 100 medals (including 65 first-place finishes) across four years. His accolades include multiple top-tier finishes at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) and UIL State levels in Mathematics, Calculator Applications, and Number Sense.
A true Navarro Graduate is a leader who elevates those around them. John exemplifies this through his extensive work as a peer tutor. Since his freshman year, John has shared his expertise with fellow students, even tutoring seniors in AP Calculus while he was an underclassman. "UIL Academics taught me that no matter how much I learn, there will always be more to learn," Kehoe remarked. "As I got better, I started teaching and tutoring others what I learned. I began to enjoy working with others and collaborating."
His ability to foster a culture of shared success within the UIL team helped the Calculator Application team reach the Regional level consistently, proving that his leadership is rooted in the success of the collective.
Beyond the classroom, John has displayed the character and adaptability necessary for the modern world. By joining the Broadcast Club and Robotics in his senior year, he stepped out of his "math comfort zone."
In Broadcasting, he learned the high-stakes problem-solving required for live sports production. In Robotics, he transitioned from theoretical math to hands-on engineering, learning the vital lesson of avoiding "over-engineering" through teamwork and practical application.
John credits his success largely to his mentor, Mr. Daniel Meyers, who inspired him to think critically and creatively. "Mr. Meyers was always by my side, from my first class in 9th grade to today," Kehoe said. "He helped me understand the 'why' behind the math, rather than just memorizing equations."
This fall, John will attend the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
When asked for advice for his fellow students, the Valedictorian offered words that reflect the resilient spirit of the Navarro community, "Take learning into your own hands; don't ask for permission to learn. Don't be scared of failure; success is built off it. Staying in your comfort zone might prevent temporary humiliation, but it also prevents potential growth and improvement."
Navarro ISD congratulates John Kehoe on this prestigious achievement and looks forward to seeing his continued impact as he enters the field of engineering.
